At rtwskin in Tunbridge Wells and London, we offer medical and aesthetic approaches to manage Eczema holistically. From advanced Eczema light therapy to targeted topical solutions, our clinic is equipped to help clients regain skin clarity and confidence through safe, individualised care.
For a comprehensive assessment and personalised care plan, we recommend booking a dermatology consultation with Dr. Fatima Ahmed. Depending on the severity and type of Eczema, prescription medication may also be required to manage symptoms and prevent recurrence.
Eczema is considered an inflammatory skin condition. While its exact cause remains multifactorial, many cases are triggered by genetic predisposition, environmental allergens, immune dysregulation, or stress.
Some forms — such as Autoimmune Eczema — are associated with overreactions of the immune system. Others, like Seborrhoeic Eczema, Scalp Eczema, relate to skin flora imbalances. Whatever the origin, the key lies in calming inflammation, restoring the skin barrier, and preventing flare-ups.

How it works
At rtwskin, we approach eczema from both a dermatological and regenerative perspective. For many, Eczema autoimmune disorder plays a role, which requires immune modulation and barrier repair. For others, external triggers such as allergens, heat or stress demand lifestyle modifications alongside medical treatment.
We may combine topical medications for Eczema with medical phototherapy (such as UVB light therapy for Eczema) or newer methods like Excimer laser treatment for Eczema to precisely target affected zones without damaging surrounding tissue.

Prior to Treatment:
Make sure area to be treated is clean and free of any SPF, lotions, oils, powders or topical medication treatments to any Eczema affected areas. UVB Excimer laser treatment is very carefully controlled; a practitioner will tailor the right amount of UVB for each individual, and monitor the results.
Test patch is required prior to your Laser treatment to determined Minimal Erythema Dose (MED). Individual skin response to UVB depends on skin prototype, topical & oral medications, prior exposure to sunlight or other source of UV and the presence of photosensitivity.
What to expect.
Individual skin response to UVB (308nm) depends on skin prototype, topical & oral medications, prior exposure to sunlight or other source of UV and the presence of photosensitivity. Minimal Erythema Dose (MED) is typically measured as follows: A template with four or five 1 to 1.5-cm circle or squares is applied to a non-sun exposed area (often volar forearm or buttocks). The circle/squares are exposed to a series of increasing doses of broadband UV according to estimated skin type, using a 2′ source. The response is measured 24 hours later. The MED is the lowest dose that produces pink erythema with distinct borders. Patients will receive increasing doses each visit, until erythema develops or until a prescribed maximum dose has been reached. The maximum dose depends on skin phototype, skin individual response, general health and local protocol.
After treatment: You will be given instructions to record your skin reaction (3 areas of evaluation – redness, sensitivity, and any level of heat) at each of the affected areas that are treated. This helps us to properly evaluate the previous treatment to determine what the subsequent treatment levels will be. This is to ensure that you attain the highest level of treatment each time you come in.
Risks and side effects of the EXCIMER (Excilite-μ) laser phototherapy:
- The most common side effect of this therapy is UVB induced sunburn. Erythema (redness) although desirable, it is a necessary part of treatment for many patients in order to deliver the most effective dose to clear their skin condition. This may occur every time during Excimer laser therapy. Certain drugs may cause your skin to over react. Please let us know of any medications that you are taking, or any that you begin while undergoing therapy.
- A blistering and sunburn-type reaction can occur.
- Increased pigmentation may occur, especially after blistering sunburn-type reactions.
These changes are more likely in patients that are not honest about their tanning habits or who try to tan during the course of treatments.
Dr. Fatima made sure I felt comfortable and calmed my nerves when I went for a mole check and removal. Dr. Fatima provided an easy, pleasant experience and was lovely – I would recommend her to everyone! Thank you!
