If fractional laser treatment is used on its own, several treatments will be required for the best results. Fractional laser is sometimes used over the entire area around the eye to blend the fully ablated areas with the remaining untreated skin. The aim of this treatment is to reduce the visibility of the Syringoma rather than to eliminate them completely. Syringomas can recur after any form of treatment, as they penetrate into the deep dermal layers of the skin and maintenance treatment may be necessary. Recurring Syringomas can be treated again without causing any damage to the skin.
Syringoma
Syringoma are benign sweat duct tumours. They are yellow in colour and form firm rounded bumps under the skin, measuring one to three millimetres in diameter. They are most often found on the lower eyelids but they may also arise elsewhere on the face & body.

Laser treatment at rtwskin
Here at rtwskin we have fully ablative, fractional CO2 and Erbium laser resurfacing to treat Syringomas. We prefer to use Erbium resurfacing laser particularly for darker skin types. In some cases, we use a combination of fully ablative with fractional laser treatments in the same session to treat the deeper component of the Syringoma. We advise the treatment of a small area first as a test patch, to ensure there are no adverse reactions and minimal, if any, scarring. Once we have assessed the success of the test patch, a larger area can then be treated. Patients who are prone to keloid scarring must be aware that they are most likely unsuitable for this type of treatment.

What are the side effects?
There is a possibility of side effects with this treatment, for example, recurrence of the Syringiomas , hypertrophic (thick) or atrophic (depressed) scarring and pigmentation (dark or pale skin appearance).
When can I see the result?
Patients need to be aware that not every Syringoma or enlarged sweat gland can be removed in one session and that it is a process that may take several treatments. Healing times range from five to fourteen days. Results are typically seen within one to two weeks.
In darker skin types, temporary hyper or hypo-pigmentation may occur which can last several months.
