Benign lesions are non-cancerous growths or abnormalities that develop on the skin. They can be congenital (present from birth) or acquired later in life. Most are painless, slow-growing, and not a cause for alarm. However, many patients choose to treat or remove them due to discomfort, location, appearance, or uncertainty.
Some of the most common types of benign growths on skin include:
- Seborrhoeic keratoses – waxy, brown or black lesions can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most commonly found on: Chest, Back, Scalp, Face and Neck. They typically do not appear on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet.
- Skin tags – small, soft, skin-coloured growths that commonly appear on the neck, underarms, or other areas where skin rubs together.
